Replacing Ignition Coil
Replacing Ignition Coil

Replacing an ignition coil is a straightforward task that you can often do yourself with basic tools. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Tools You’ll Need:

Steps to Replace an Ignition Coil:

  1. Locate the Ignition Coils:

    • Most modern cars have one coil per spark plug (coil-on-plug design).

    • Older vehicles may have a single coil or a distributor with a coil pack.

  2. Disconnect the Battery (Safety First!):

    • Remove the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent electrical shocks or short circuits.

  3. Remove the Engine Cover (If Applicable):

    • Some vehicles have plastic covers over the engine that need to be removed.

  4. Unplug the Electrical Connector:

    • Press the release tab on the coil’s wiring harness and gently pull it out.

  5. Remove the Mounting Bolt (If Present):

    • Some coils are held in place by a small bolt (usually 8mm or 10mm).

  6. Pull Out the Old Coil:

    • Firmly grip the coil and twist slightly while pulling upward.

    • If stuck, use pliers gently (wrap them in a cloth to avoid damage).

  7. Install the New Coil:

    • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the coil boot (helps with conductivity and future removal).

    • Push the new coil into the spark plug well until it seats properly.

  8. Reattach the Wiring & Bolt:

    • Plug the electrical connector back in.

    • Reinstall the mounting bolt if applicable.

  9. Repeat for Other Coils (If Needed):

    • If replacing multiple coils, follow the same steps for each one.

  10. Reconnect the Battery & Test:
